| UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS May generate hydrogen gas in contact with some metals. Thermal decomposition emits toxic fumes of oxides of phosphorus. Moderate explosion hazard and dangerous fire hazard when exposed to heat, sparks, or flames. SPECIAL FIREFIGHTING PROCEDURES Hot phosphoric acid is corrosive. Wear protective clothing to avoid contact with skin or eyes and a self-contained respirator to prevent inhalation exposure. |

SECTION V - HEALTH HAZARD DATA EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE Liquid is corrosive to eyes and skin. Mist produces irritation to eyes, nose, throat, and lungs. Slightly toxic with repeated inhalation or ingestion. Causes burns to exposed tissues. High concentrations can induce headache, dizziness, nausea, anemia, liver and kidney injury, clouding of the cornea, drowsiness and shortness of breath. MEDICAL CONDITIONS PRONE TO AGGRAVATION BY EXPOSURE: Prolonged overexposure can induce a transient decrease in red blood cell count and increased fragility of red blood cells. Adverse systemic effects can develop following repeated or prolonged contact with human skin. PRIMARY ROUTE (S) OF ENTRY: X DERMAL X INHALATION X INGESTION ROUTES OF EXPOSURE: Ingestion: The acute oral LD50 in rat is 470 mg/kg. Relative to other materials, a single dose of this product is moderately toxic by ingestion. Eye Contact: This material can induce pain, moderate irritation and corneal injury which usually clear in one to two weeks. Skin Contact: No irritation is likely to develop following short contact periods with human skin. Prolonged and/or repeated exposure can lead to redness, swelling and necrosis. Skin Absorption: This material is absorbed through human skin. The dermal LD50 in rabbit is reported to be 220 mg/kg. Relative to other materials, a single application of this product is moderately toxic by skin absorption. Daily application of up to 150 mg/kg/day to rabbits for 13 weeks did not induce adverse systemic effects. Inhalation: At high concentrations, exposures to this material are associated with central nervous system depression effects and respiratory passage irritation. In rat and rabbit teratology studies with this material, adverse effects were seen in the offspring at levels that were not maternally toxic; at maternally toxic doses while toxic effects were seen in the offspring, there were no increased incidences of malformations. WARNING: This product contains detectable amounts of a chemical proven to the state of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES Skin: Remove contaminated clothing and footwear. Wash material off the skin with plenty of soap and water. If redness, itching or a burning sensation develops, get medical attention. Wash contaminated clothing and decontaminate footwear before reuse. Eyes: Immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and have eyes examined and treated by medical personnel. Ingestion: Give one or two glasses of water to drink and induce vomiting by sticking finger down throat. Refer victim to medical personnel. (Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.) Inhalation: Remove victim to fresh air. If cough or other respiratory symptoms develop, consult medical personnel. |
SECTION VI - REACTIVITY DATA STABILITY ______ UNSTABLE X STABLE HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATION ______ MAY OCCUR X WILL NOT OCCUR HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS Hydrogen gas from contact with metals at flame temperatures will emit toxic phosphorus oxide fumes. Combustion products: carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide. CONDITIONS TO AVOID Contact with alkaline materials and reactive metals. INCOMPATIBILITY ( MATERIALS TO AVOID ) Avoid cyanides, strong alkalis, strong bases, and oxidizing materials. |
SECTION VII - SPILL OR LEAK PROCEDURES STEPS TO BE TAKEN IN CASE MATERIAL IS RELEASED OR SPILLED Eliminate source of ignition and ventilate spill area. Wear skin, eye and respiratory protection during cleanup. Soak up liquid with absorbent and using non-sparking equipment, shovel into waste container. Cover container and remove from work area. Wash down spill area with water and flush to a sewer serviced by a wastewater treatment facility. WASTE DISPOSAL Dispose of in accordance with local, state and federal pollution regulations. Container disposal: Empty container retains product residue. Observe all hazard precautions. Do not distribute, make available, furnish or reuse empty container except for storage and shipment of original product. Remove all product residue and puncture or otherwise destroy empty container before disposal. |
SECTION VIII - SAFE HANDLING AND USE INFORMATION RESPIRATORY PROTECTION Emergency: ( High mist concentration ) Self contained breathing apparatus. VENTILATION If required to maintain TLV. PROTECTIVE GLOVES Acid resistant rubber. EYE PROTECTION Chemical safety goggles or face shield. OTHER PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT Acid resistant aprons, or suits, as required. HYGIENIC PRACTICES: Wash thoroughly after handling. |
SECTION IX - SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN HANDLING AND STORING Prevent skin and eye contact. Avoid breathing mist. Keep containers closed. OTHER PRECAUTIONS Containers should be stored in a cool place with closures up. Avoid physical damage to containers. Avoid excessive temperatures, E.E. welding, flame cutting and brazing. Treat empty containers as hazardous due to protect residues. * * NOTICE * * The information and recommendations contained in this Material Safety Data Sheet are supplied pursuant to 29 CFR 1910.1200 of the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Hazard Communication Rule.
